Overview

In this work, I examine how soul music, once a powerful vehicle for Black love, liberation, and collective wellness, was systematically replaced in mainstream culture by profit-driven, "soulless" music. I trace soul's origins in the Civil Rights Movement, its role in political and spiritual awakening, and the ways capitalism, crossover marketing, and the white-owned music industry transformed Black musical expression, with profound consequences for our collective well-being.
